King Solomon was the King of Israel around 970 B.C.E. He is one of the 48 prophets in the Quran. Most notably, the Hebrew Bible credits him with building the First Temple in Jerusalem. Solomon is the subject of many other later references and legends, most notably the Testament of Solomon.

The Key of Solomon associates each seal or pentacle with angels, demons or aerial spirits that govern the actions of specific planets. The knowledge of binding planetary spirits in seals is part of the renowned wisdom imparted to King Solomon by the God of Israel. Ownership of authentic seals shares this latent power with believers. Also, by this seal King Solomon did command all the aforesaid Spirits in the Vessel of Brass, and did seal it up with this same seal. He by it gained the love of all manner of persons, and overcame in battle, for neither weapons, nor fire, nor water could hurt him. And this privy seal was made to cover the vessel at the top withal, etc.

King Solomon is the youngest son of David, and he was most famous in Biblical accounts for his wisdom. His wisdom is granted by God. God decides to grant his prayer, since he did not ask for any self-serving gains. He only asks for something that he uses to help others.

The most well-known account of his wisdom is the Judgement of Solomon:

Two women are fighting over a child, both claiming to be his mother. Solomon devised a plan to seek out the true mother of the child. He proposed that the child be cut in half, each woman sharing the child. One of the women quickly renounced her claim on the child. She proved that she was the mother by giving the child up rather than seeing it killed. Solomon declared her the mother because she showed compassion that only a true mother would have.

However, in later years of his life, Solomon is also known as a magician and an exorcist, with numerous amulets and medallion seals dating from the Hellenistic period invoking his name. Though Solomonic magic is primarily Christian in origin, it is dependent upon both Jewish lore and Arabic magical practices.

Solomon had a couple of items pertaining to his work in demonology: a magic ring called the “Seal of Solomon” and his grimore. The ring gave Solomon the ability to control demons or Jinn. The symbol on the ring closely resembles the Star of David or a pentagram. This is a lightly debated topic, since the Star of David appears around 11 C.E. While the pentagram traces back to 2 B.C.E. This makes the ring more likely to be a pentagram, since he was around 971 to 930 B.C.E.

Solomon added information to his Grimoire by capturing demons with the use of his ring. When captured, he can force them to explain themselves to him. In his book, each demon is given a rank: Marquis, Duke, Prelate, Knight, President, King, Count, and Earl. Each demon listed is itself a greater spirit, ruling over a multitude of legions. Each legion consisting of 6,666 lesser demons.

The material he had was later complied into The Lesser Key of Soloman. The text also goes into detail about how to summon, or evoke, the demons and bend them to servitude. However, it is important to note that this is not diabolical worship. The magician only summons the demon through the holy power of God.

His wisdom leads him to gain great wealth, causing him to build the First Temple. He also is the author of several biblical books. However, the biblical narrative notes that he is not without sin. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines, many of whom were foreign. He allowed his wives to import their national deities, building temples to Ashtoreth and Milcom. This caused great upheaval, and he had to incur divine anger and retribution after his death. His punishment is that his kingdom is divided, never again to be reunited.
